The bottom line is a control program should be an 'addition to' a
radio, but not 'in place of' parts of a radio. I think a lot of us
much rather utilize the radio rather than play with a computer. I
doubt that a serious DX'er or contester uses control programs for
their operations, therefore, again, the radio should work
stand-alone.

Interesting about the RIT encoder.
Someone suggested using the N4py control program and leaving the
knobs alone
on the front panel, that way they will last longer and the front
panel will
not show wear. However, I know that is not the answer to your
problem, and
the encoders should be holding up better. Toby W4CAK

RIT/XIT Encoder
Well I am now on my third RIT/XIT encoder. It is discouraging
that TEN
TEC does not think this is a problem. I have talked to them (Paul
Clinton
at Ten Tec) about it, and they will replace it no problem, but
fixing the
design so it is not a problem again and again, no they are not at
that
point yet. And yes pulling out on the knob works for a awhile,
but after
a period of time the encoders go intermittent again.
