100 watts is normal.  Did you check if the "ALC" knob down or all the way 
up?  If ALC has been ruled out, there are also internal adjustments for 
limiting the output.  They may need adjustment.

Is the drive control all the way up?  If so, you do not have enough 
drive.  Drive control should normally be at 10 oclock (approx) for CW and 
about 8 oclock for SSB opertion.

I would like advice on getting the SSB going.

Check your mike wiring, of course.  The Triton 4 had excellent audio, 
normally.  Use a high-Z mike, such as a D-104, or similar.
