I think that many of these negative comments are the result of
expectations which were just too high. Anyone who has read these boards
knows that there have been and continue to be a few problems with the Orion.
Whether these problems are big or small or even noticed, really depends on
your operating habits and modes. I have had my Orion for over a year now
and the only problem that I notice is the power meter fall off. That just
doesn't bother me. I understand other problems are more bothersome to some
who use the Orion differently than I.
I agree that some of these problems should never have been there in the
first place and that most of them should have been fixed by now. I fully
understand some of your frustration. But, the bottom line rests on two
significant observations:
1. You could have spent $10,000 or more on the new Icom or, more
recently the new Yaesu. How much frustration is $7000+ worth to you?
2. With the possible exception of the K-2, you can't find a ham receiver
that is better than the Orion (jury is still out on the new Yaesu). How
much are those close in receiver numbers worth to you?
Just one man's opinion.

Tim,
You are probably correct.
There is too much good technical information on TEN TEC products that can
be
shared over the long run for the benefit of everyone.
So, I retract, my previous email comment.
I don't own an ORION yet, however, from the discussions with many of the
operators that do have the ORION, it appears to a fabulous radio.
And with scheduled firmware upgrades over time, I am sure that it will
only
get better.

A bit severe, don't you think.
Perhaps a moderator for the list would be in order.

I don't get it. There has never been a perfect Ten-Tec. There has never
been a perfect Icom... Kenwood.... Yaesu... Collins... whatever. Don't
say there was otherwise why did you get something else?
There are sooo many Ten-Tec products to discuss.... but so many 'others'
turned off by this continuous... "going nowhere" Orion banter. Why not
just establish bug and wishlists for each version of the firmware....
somewhere! And then get on with discussing new things?
We don't have to paint a 'rosy picture'. Discussion good and bad is
'good'. But there is a point of over doing anything. And for gosh
sakes... if you no longer have a Ten-Tec or are not planning to perhaps
get one there really isn't any reason for you to post here. It simply
isn't constructive.
Those are my thoughts.... I am about 30 seconds from removing myself
from this list as it doesn't seem to have all that much to offer those
of us that use other Ten-Tec gear and are looking for ways to use it
better.
