My mods were for a different reason....
Since I run mostly psk and other digitial modes, I wanted to get feq 
stability plus keeping the rig nice and cool on xmit.
I didn't notice any difference in if gain that I can recall before putting 
in the fan in the speakers place. As far as the one on the heat sink, I have 
always done that to my TT's
