| Rick is right in that there are a number of matching networks out that the
manufacturers call balanced transmatches. i won't get into an engineering
argument over the definition of a balanced transmatch, as I am not qualified
to argue about that. I guess I should have said that the design I prefer as
I believe it is most efficient, is the balanced network design using two
parallel L networks (which share a common capacitor). I guess i could call
myself a L network devotee--they are all i ever use; i have a 238 for
unbalanced feed and it is great. I think we all know how low loss they are,
and easy to tune; only one match configuration and it's always therefore the
best by default, and only two controls to adjust and so on. I have never
owned the palstar but i understand it is a parallel L network (the one with
the BAL model number as Rick identified) with the inductors on a common
shaft now (instead of side by side with a belt between them on a pully that
can break). If you don't need to motorize the components, these tuners
aren't that hard to build. see this for more information: http://www.somis.org/bbat.html <<<then coax (good stuff like belden 238) the rest of the way to the rig.>>> woops, I meant RG213; sorry. rob/k5uj _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected?
