Mike, thanks for that bit of wisdom. With the PreAmp off, registered just a
hair over S9, good enough!

Good morning, Roland!
Is there a chance that the receiver's PreAmp is engaged? I expereienced a
similar issue with my Orion I when it arrived but I found the Pre-
Amp was on by default. Once the PreAmp was shut off, the meter produced
more accurate readings.
73 and enjoy your new rig!

Subject: Fwd: [TenTec] Orion II - Initial Reactions and Impressions
The Orion II #135 arrived yesterday by UPS. Box was slightly damaged in one
corner, but all contents were ok. Got a little worried, but when I got all
hooked up, everything worked ok. This is my first Orion so I am learning how
to use it. Audio check last night was great and cw too! I bought this radio
for contesting and ragchewing on cw, rtty and ssb.
One problem I have noticed is the S Meter is not calibrated properly. All
signals that should be S9 read 20+ db. I checked the meter against a signal
of 50 uV and it read a little over 20 db, when it should have read s9. I
have emailed tentec service on how to correct this. Otherwise, everyone is
enjoying a nice signal report on my side Hi!
More to come when I get to play with it more!
