Thank you all for the reminder! I had recently put in an alkaline 
battery as a temporary replacement until I could find another 
rechargeable 9V battery. This evening I opened up the Paragon. Sure 
enough, the battery was leaking. Fortunately, it had not leaked on the 
wiring or the board, but there was some corrosion on the aluminum 
chassis. It could have been much worse!
