Larry, are there any strong BC stations near you? I would connect a resistor of say 10,000 ohms to ground from each side of the feeder of your dipole to constantly drain static build up which is common in cold dry winter weather. Even slight wind or sway of the wires could develop hundreds of volts, given the winter conditions. Are the leads from power supply large enough conductors and twisted all the way?
