I asked on a couple lists about Jim a few weeks ago (right after the dam
broke). He sent me a PM (personal message) stating that he's doing
fine. With permission, I'm attaching that message below.

Aloha Aaron,

Still out here on Kauai, where it is STILL raining! No, we live on a
hill, well above flooding, but it is around us. The burst dam was
across the island from my QTH, some 15 miles away, that flood flow was
to the NW; we are on the SW side of the island. Nearest problem to
here is the Waita dam and reservoir, which did cause some flooding and
mandatory evacuation down in Old Koloa Town last night. Oops, there
comes another Flash Flood warning: our island; heavy rains now falling
on the West side of the island and moving about 10 mph to the East side.
Glad I am on higher ground!

I am no longer on the Ten Tec or Tower Talk reflectors; have sold my TT
Orion rig, but do have an Omni VI with the factory upgrades to and
including the fact. installation of the TCXO replacing the former oven
heater control of the xtal. Drift is very similar to the Orion after
turn-on. My tower and little Force 12 C-3 is still up, but my rotator
is not operating just now. However, if some DX (which I am no longer
chasing with any passion) can still be heard/worked, if it seems really
interesting -- I just go out and hand rotate the mast, hi.

Also sold all my QRO gear, Henry, Bird load and meter, a lot of Bird
slugs, etc.,etc. Funds raised from that sale have gone into building
up a "super PC" for attachment to my rather large 28 year old Allen
organ. I can now operate, via .wav samples of each and every pipe in
several classic and theatre style pipe organs and enjoy the sound of
real pipe organs! This for me now seems to be a more enjoyable pass
time than ham radio. Maybe that is because I have been ham licensed
since 1950, have sort of "done it all" there, and gone on to something
equally technically challenging, and I find the music very enjoyable to
learn and play.

So that is a brief synopsis of the last few years. By the way, I am
on 40 meters every afternoon of the year as net manager of the Hawaii
Afternoon Net, which has an on going history of daily operation since
May of 1981. It is of course most valuable during emergency times here
in the islands. Though we have handled no emergency traffic during this
present flooding situation, we are useful for information spreading to
the other islands about what is actually going on here right now.

Should you be interested in our rainy wx just now, have a look at:

http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wi000/earcwx.html

Scroll down about 35% of the way to the radar images of the rain
onsetting Kauai right now! It has been coming at us this way for
several days now!! That is a large weather site, with a whole lot of
information, so if you don't have a broadband connection, it will take
some time to download.

If you think others might be interested in this info, feel free to
repost or link. And thank you for wondering about me and the folks out
here on wet Kauai.

Very best and 73,

Jim Reid W6KPI (my origianl Class B, 1950 call)
