D. Kemp,

Try an Inverted-L fed with either RG8X or RG58U. It's a popular antenna for
SWL. I'm using one with an MFJ-956 tuner between the antenna and my O2's
receive antenna jack. It's simple and effective.

Don:

I have a small lot (50 X 100 ft., with all antennas in the back yard).
For 80 meters I use a full size dipole, but it is bent like a inverted V
and angled, actually more like an inverted U to fit in the yard. It
isn't a good DX antenna but it works great for traffic nets and NVIS
skip. The apex is only about 25 feet high. For 40 meters and up, I use a
loop. Both antennas are much better than the G5RV that I was using. My
original G5RV was rigged as an inverted V and I subsequently read that
the G5RV works best when set up as a straight dipole. My antennas aren't
very high, but they do fit in the back yard.

                                        73,

                                        Bob WB2VUF
