Please indulge me - I want to understand the point. How does one
create the QRM that keeps weaker stations from being heard, other than
having a strong signal (max ERP at optimal arrival angle, properly
compressed/equalized audio)?

Maybe it should be simply stated that processing allows the audio gain to be run much higher, thereby bringing up all the background noise including the amplifier blower, whether distorted or not.

This can be verified by watching the S-meter and noticing NO level drop during pauses in speech.... just loud background noise. If nothing else, it's annoying.
