Frankly, that's hard to understand.

If the AGC "seems to fast", slow it down.  I assume this is an Orion II
you're talking about.  Set HANG at about 0.2-0.3 seconds, and decay rate at
5-7 dB in SLOW.

Also, increase THRESHOLD until the background band noise just stops wiggling
the meter.

You might actually like it :-)
