Steve,
Have the Buyer do a bank wire tranfer from his bank to your bank.
When your bank tells you the money has been received and it in your account,
it is a done deal.
My bank charges $15 to send a wire transfer, but this may vary from area to
area.
A wire transfer usually takes less than 6 hours to complete.
The most unsafe way to receive money is by a Cashier Check or Money Order,
usually payable to the Buyer (not you) , for an amount LARGER THAN THE SALE
where you refund the difference back to the Buyer. This is a very common
scam where you end up with a fradulant or stolen worthless Cashier Check, no
radio, and out the additional money you refunded to the Buyer. Beleive it or
not, people still fall for this on a daily basis especially in larger sales
such as motorcycles or cars and trucks.
On a larger transaction, I have accepted a Cashier Check when I call the
bank it is issued on and they verify it is real/valid and that they will pay
it.
