I must be pretty tone-deaf because I have a hard time zero-beating CW signals.
On my K2 I
added the K6XX CW Tuning Indicator and it works really well.
I bought another CW indicator and installed it in my Ten Tec Omni VI+. Turned
out to be
pretty easy.
The kit for the CW Indicator Board is available from WA3WSJ for $27. It's
surface mount,
so if you want him to put it together it's an extra $10. Order the kit for the
K1 as it
has the LED included.

Documentation for the kit is here:

It needs three connections for V+, ground, and audio. These are made on the
lower pot
board which is easily accessed by removing the bottom cover. With the bottom
cover
removed, looking down at the lower pot board with the front of the rig at the
towards you,
you will see four sets of connectors. Solder three wires from the lower pot
board to the
CW Indicator Board. Make the wires long enough to snake the CW Indicator card
and LED up
from the bottom of the Omni so that the LED ends up behind the meter.
Attach the wires to the lower pot board as follows. Pick up audio on the
farthest pin to
the left. Pick up ground at the rightmost pin of the third set of pins from
the left.
Pick up 12 volts at the third pin from the left on the set of pins that are
farthest to
the right. The other end of each wire goes to the CW Indicator's V+, audio and
ground
connections.
When the wires are connected, turn on the Omni and turn on the sidetone.
Adjust the CW
Indicator Card resistor to light at the sidetone's frequency. If you change
the sidetone
frequency, you will need to change this adjustment accordingly.
After the board has been adjusted, cover it with electrical tape to prevent any
shorts to
the front panel. Then snake the board up between the front panel wires so that
the LED is
behind the meter. My LED ended up on the right side of the meter as I view the
meter from
the front.
I have pictures of the lower pot board connections, the placement of the LED
behind the
meter, and how it looks in use for anyone interested.
I can now zero beat with ease and really enjoy this mod.
