One solution for this is to get a Tokyo Hy-Power HL-100Bdx. This is a
solid-state "brick" amp for 80-6 meters that puts out 100 watts and uses
RF-sensing
switching so no amp control link is needed. While originally designed for the
FT-817, it will work fine with the Argo V as long as the Argo's output is
kept to 10-12 watts or less. If you goof, you won't damage the amp. It will
just turn off automatically and tell you "DRV ERR" in Morse code!
You won't find it at a US dealer because FCC will not allow this sort of amp
to be type-certified. However, it's perfectly legal for a licensed ham to
use. The only drawbacks are that you have to order it direct from the
manufacturer in Japan (Google Tokyo Hy-Power for the web site) and the price:
$360 plus
shipping, at least when I got mine a few months ago. I mainly use it on RTTY,
and it works fine.
