In the old days, there were no reliable methods to measure power output.
Watt meters didn't exist that were in any good unless they cost more than
the transmitter.   In fact the FCC restrictions for power used to be
specified by measuring power input to the final stage.   This was meaured by
measuring the cureent and voltage in the final stage and multiplying the two
together.  So all the old literature on transmitters specified power input
to the final stage.  The 580 Delta was listed as 200 watts power input to
the final stage.  This was 100 watts power output to the antenna.
