Oh, heck, I've beaten up a Dentron Super Tuner on 160 with my OMNI VI and no amp at all. 100 watts into a short vertical - it DID get the SWR down at the rig but the SWR would "creep up" with heating of the elements inside. I tried another one, same thing. I suspect many of the MFJ units would do the same. Their cheaper tuners are "fine" as long as your antenna is relatively well behaved (I've done fine with the Diff-T tuner from MFJ even with an amplifier, but never a difficult antenna!)

Yes, then I went to the 238 and it worked fine. Now, I don't use amps anymore, and my main tuner is the Harvey-Wells Z match, rated for 400 watts (AM!!!) and just hit it with 5 watts most of the time. No problems here.

I also had a Dentron tuner. I think it was called Super Tuner.... rated for a kilowatt and never had a problem... So what Bob McGraw is talking about must not be Dentron or MFJ!! <g>

I noticed "smoke coming out of the box". I opened it up to discover
the tapped inductor and it's plastic structural supports to be stinky

things in reasonable shape. Although the tuner didn't arc or
 flash-over, as far as a 1.5KW PEP power rating, it isn't. {Name

I hope you have some mighty fine justification to "protect the
guilty". ;-)
