Don't try to remove the board if one of the diodes has failed (and it most 
likely has).

Look and make mental note of the polarity direction, then reach in with 
pliers and crush the diode.  This leaves the two leads sticking up from the 
board.  Solder to them.  Takes about ten minutes.
