Dave:
I use a 238 tuner. Most of the time without an amp but I do run a Centruion
when needed. The tuner handles all of the loads I've hung on it. No arcs,
no sparks. If I identify any weakness it would be the dial cord method for
operating the slide rule dial. The internal SWR bridge and Power meter
functions seem reasonably accurate. I do not us an internal tuner with the
new Omni VII. And I don't mind turning a few knobs when I change bands or
frequencies.
Antennas are a 256 ft center fed wire using balanced feed. This antenna
works all bands, 160M - 10M. And a 120 ft wire using a 1:1 current balun at
the feed point and a coax feed. This antenna shows a 1:1 SWR at mid band on
75M and with the tuner I work all of 80/75 meters.
