Clark has it right. ALSO, sometimes the encoder connector gets a light coating of ??? on it which you can clean off . Try working the connector on and off a few times. It fixed my 2000 PLUS and saved buying an encoder. Not real hard to change, but I dont think you can get one except from Tennessee....I couldn't find one anywhere else (with exact same specs).
