Thanks for the info Tom. I did not know that.
That would possibly explain why some hams complain about rfi from them
and some say they have no problems.
I just checked one of the lamps in this hotel room.  The fixture must be
modern because it has a socket made for that type of bulb.
Both the lamp and the bulb say RH/NE but do not say where they were
made.  Must be either USA or illegal labeling.
I did try turning off every light in the place but it had no effect on
the noise level.

I am trying a set of random length wires with a balun for receiving now
and I can copy some stations on 30 and 40m cw.
Noise level is much better now, currently about S4 to S5.  That doesn't
seem too bad to me since my home qth is way out in the farm land
and it usually runs a little higher than that there, I think due to
power line noise.
