I had TWO Mark 5s at once and sold both to buy a used ORION ONE and a K3, both
of which

are now available to me. I sold the Mark 5s because of the horrid noise

that was new at my new qth and much worse than in Fla.

I hoped the K3 would kill the noises (man made, Nature made, who knows)

and the BCI also vy bad. First version of K3 failed that test. Now it is back

from factory, but not tested yet.

The ORION ONE was good with the noise and the continuous adjustment

on that was vy nice. It still had some BCI, but degraded ssb sigs only a

little on full noise reduction. Both K3 and ORION were absolutely GREAT

on CW, a dream solution for me on that mode.

Now I get to try the FT-9000D and the "u" filters in there are vy near

sliced bread. Virtually end of noise and the sigs r still there!

BUT, I woudda kept the Mark 5s ...fully crystalled up and roofing too...

if they could have handled the BCI and noises.

The FT-1000D, the MP, and the Mark V are dream radios even today.

I think DSP noise reduction IN HAM RIGS is over sold. If I were still

in Fla, I woudda kept the Mark 5s. 73
