Ah!! Good thought!!
One real old timer told me that he avoids any and all internal speakers in hf rigs like the plauge....the vibration from the speaker can cause the tweekable coils to move out of adjustment.

Denton,

The internal speaker may have picked up metal particles which short circuit the air gap between the magnet and coil causing the cone to drag and distort
sound.   A gentle vacuuming of the inside of the cone might pick up any
debris like that.  A tissue sometimes can be used to pass thru the air gap
and remove metal filings.
