Another advantage of LCW is that if you want the tone of the station you're listening to go up, you tune the dial up and vice versa to go down. On UCW, it's just the opposite. I think that's why LCW is the default mode for the N4PY control software.

John, you can use either lcw or ucw. it depends to me on which way you like
to tune in a signal--from the lower to upper tone or vice versa. i like to
tune UP so i use lcw on all bands and tune from low to high on the band.

Hello All , here is another dumb question ........on the OII there is a
ucw and a lcw do I use lcw on 40mtrs and  lower like LSB ? or do I always
use ucw and use lcw to help rx the signal . I am getting back into cw and
