The AGC takes some playing with to get the way it sounds best to you. Just
remember the default Hang setting is 00.00, which sounds DISTORTED. Put at
least .04 to .12 seconds hang time and it will smooth right out.
There you have it, right from the horses mouth!

My wish is simply that can make the AGC change. My original Orion is
superior to my Orion II in that regard. Others agree. I believe TT must
also, as they are pushing that as the one of the bigger changes coming in
the upgrade now in beta testing.

IF you watch what is being upgraded or put into the software it is fringe
stuff ! The basic cw and ssb works fine as is ! Now if you want to type
and
have it send and receive some weird keyboard mode that nobody but a few
weirdoes want to use you will have to wait until they poke it into the
software in a year or so :-) I don't think I use a quarter of the
FEATURES
in my ORION II thingy and never will but it is a GREAT cw / ssb receiver

so is my K-3 as it is :-) The tentec reflector guys seem to want some
kind
of water fall display or something and I have that FEATURE turned off any
way, oh poor me , woes me, how stupid I am !! ..................... duh

As I understand this is necessary to fix whatever it was they broke in
the previous release. Which I think nicely proves my point about why
Ten-Tec will not do that it's a lesson they probably learned with V1.xxx
and V2.xxx. I think it will become more common though, especially at the
consumer level. If people are happy with it. Tinkerers, yes, appliance
ops who want what their buddy says is a great rig, maybe, guys who want
to pay and go, possibly not. Don't get me wrong I have been following
the K3 story since the Visalia launch and am almost decided to get one.
I do like a lot of the things about the radio I'm not sure though that I
can really feel comfortable with a radio that gets better incrementally
until after what, 5, maybe ten years from now it is where my
expectations are today. That would just make me grumpy.
I work for a small part of a very large organisation whose ethos is
'right FIRST time' but then the military don't like to be beta testers
as a rule. I'm still curious to know how they are going to make all this
software engineering effort pay.
