I "thought" the two codes were different. But, even if they're the same, and your scenario is correct, why not just issue another update?

Still makes no sense to me. The O II beta testing took between 3 and 4 months.

What does the O have to do with the O2 firmware?

I suspect the code for some of the new features is shared between the
two, and if they find an issue to be resolved on the O version,
they'll probably want to propagate that change back to the OII version
to minimize version differences. It's a configuration management
thing.
