Bob:

I'm using a Shure 450. When I set the Omni to "VOX" and lock the PTT bar on the mic, everything works normally... VOX triggers on speech and modulation is present. Works fine. When the Omni is set to "PTT" the PTT bar on the Shure 450 does nothing. But, if I connect a switch to the PTT RCA jack on the back of the
radio, I can trigger PTT without any issues.

When using the Ten Tec 705, I CANNOT have the Omni set to PTT and the Mic set to PTT at the same time. The OMNI's receiver drops out completely (dead silence) and when the PTT button (grey on the 705) is depressed, the mic is active and there's modulation on speech patterns. But the receiver does not become
active again (dead silence, the AF knob is not off).

But, when the 705 is set to VOX and the Omni is set to VOX, the PTT triggers the mic and VOX works normally.

It seems that something is wrong with the PTT as controlled via the PTT/VOX button on the face of the radio.

Thanks for the help!

John, You did not specify which model Shure mic. Most of the live sound style mics have the element shorted for mute when the slide switch is off. Now if you are using a communications mic such as a 444 that is different. the 705 has two switches. The switch on top of the stand has a lock on
position. I always leave mine is "VOX position". Regards, Bob

Subject: [TenTec] Omni V and 705 Mic issues...

Hello...

I acquired an Omni V this weekend with a model 705 microphone... When
the 705 is set to PTT (via switch in base)
and the Omni is set to PTT (via depressed PTT/VOX button on faceplate)
the Omni's receiver drops out completely.
It is as if the PTT relay is activated... and a press of the PTT
button on the mic allows for transmit, but the receiver
never comes back on. It's locked out.

When a Shure microphone is attached to the radio, and the PTT/VOX
button is depressed, the Omni "acts" normally.
Receiver is still active, etc. The PTT button on the Shure does not
work at all in the Omni's PTT mode. But, when
the Omni is set to VOX, with the PTT button locked on the Shure
microphone, VOX operation is normal.

VOX seems to be working just fine, with no issues at all... PTT is
not operational at all.

Is this a bad PTT switch? Relay? Solder connection? Or something
that may need to be resolved by a TenTec
tech?

Thanks!

John
