The virtue of the #31 material is that when you use the right number 
of turns, it is effective for suppression the AM broadcast band to 
VHF. As noted in my tutorial (cited in an earlier post), the choke 
must be tuned to the frequency range where you want to use it. The 
resulting choke will have a Q of about 0.4, so it will be effective 
over a frequency range of about 4:1. You could, for example, use a 
choke with many turns to cover 160-40M, and a second one with fewer 
turns to cover 30-10M. The two chokes would be in series on the same 
line that you're choking. 

Above 5MHz, the #43 material as good or slightly better.  Below 4 
MHz, the #31 material much superior.
