This wasn't with a Ten-Tec - but in the same theme: About 30 or 40 years ago I was at my Texas location - a rare county in the western plains, where I was known as W5NFJ. My setup was a DX60 + 2b. which was working the world with a low dipole on 40 CW - until I started getting rather poor signal reports. I finally dug in and found the screen resistor was open, the bypass condenser having shorted to ground, the final current was zero, and all that was hitting the antenna was what was capacitvely-coupled through the final tube from the oscillator-buffer. Not much, but I could still work the world. K3TX ----- Original Message ----- From: <K8mp@aol.com>

Here's my story...

Several years ago I was in a CW QSO and decided to switch to a straight
key in mid-stream. I turned the drive all the way down on my OMNI-6 Plus so I
could adjust the key spacing while listening to the side-tone.

I tapped the key a few times and the guy I was in QSO with thought someone
was trying to break-in. Turns out I was S-5 on his receiver and another
station who was reading the mail gave me an S-4.

I had 3 watt-meters in line (the Omni 6's, the one in my tuner, and one in
the line to the antenna)
None of them registered any movement, so my output had to be in the in the
100 milli-watt range.

I still get a kick out of telling that story.

Hi  y'all...

Let's have some fun with the discussion about the output of the Omni VI
set at minimum output. Try operating with the power control turned fully
down (ccw) and see what contacts are made. Post your results here!

Other rigs are welcome to join in, as well :-) Just post the rig you are
using along with your  "results."
