Chas,

Changing the "ANN" function under hidden menu #1 from "ALL" to "OFF" did the trick. This is the annunciation beep function that causes the unit to emit a short beep when any of the front-panel keypad buttons are depressed. Thankfully this appears to be totally independent of the CW sidetone volume setting. I had a long QSO on SSB Sunday afternoon after making the change and I had no problems with the intermittent beeping in my headphones while I was transmitting.

Thanks for your help, Chas.

I nominate my 12 gauge pump that I am going to use to shoot my POS Omni

Mike and others,
My Omni VI has a place in the #1 User Menu which allows
turning OFF the 10 minute ID reminder beep, and also another beep signal.
Will that help, Mike?

I'll give that a try next time I am up at the remote site, Charles.
Worst-case I suppose I can get into the schematic and figure out some
way to mute the audio output during SSB transmissions. I prefer having
an SSB monitor function as with my FT1000MP MK V, but I can live with
the silence of no monitor function. It's that incessant beeping that
comes and goes randomly that makes me want to shoot the rig.
