First off, I would like to thank the serval who have offered information in my quest to get the 505 back on the air. I just obtained this little gem at Dayton this past weekend. My first project is to get the dial string rewound. I downloaded the manual from the ten tec obsolete manuals area and have discovered that the download has the wrong instructions for rewinding the dial. Page 3-1 gives the procedure and refers to a "spring" and how to re-cord with the spring. Only thing is, the 505 does not have a spring. It uses a combination of stretch cord and dacron.

Does anyone have a manual for the 505 with the correct procedure. Just would like to read it.

I don't have a 505 so I can't tell you for sure, but the 509 manual has the instructions. When I did mine, I was lucky it was still strung and I cheated. I tied a new stretch cord into the the loop around the dial pointer in the old cord, ran it around the pulleys and fastened it under the screw at the other end. I did make more work for myself by removing the screw at the far end, removing the crimp on connector used to hold it on, and putting the screw back.

Once I was sure I had it done properly, I cut the old cord off.

I found this web page very helpful. http://www.earlandrews.com/argonaut5.html

73 and good luck.

New word I coined 12/13/09, "Sub-Wikipedia" adj, describing knowledge or understanding, as in he has a sub-wikipedia understanding of the situation. i.e possessing less facts or information than can be found in the Wikipedia.
