The matchbox loves antennas fed with twinlead.
Just don't use the internal balun.
Bob, K4TAX (I believe that's his call) runs a kilowatt AM through the same
type of monster balun I have and then a couple hundred feet of openwire to
his dipole. Works great with the Model 238.
I feed a vertical dipole (2x 30 ft.) on 160 thru 40, fed with openwire of
course, and the 238 tunes fine on all three bands.
Of course I would rather have a symmetrical matchbox, but unfortunately I
left my high power Annecke in Germany.

It depends on lots of things, including the impedances being matched.
I agree that the balun is a real weak sister. But since I don't like
antennas fed with twinlead, I've never used it.
