Here a some other options:

Oak Hills Research digital dial: http://www.ohr.com/dd1.htm
Hendricks QRP kits: http://www.qrpkits.com/freqcounter.html

Both of these have a single input and programmable offsets.

The AADE DFD-2 would be my choice because it will count the HFO and PTO and will internally subtract PTO from HFO to give the signal frequency without the need for the operator to change offsets when changing bands. I'd like to try one on my Hammarlund HQ-100A and on the Century 22. I would want to find a way to bring the signals out without drilling extra holes in the rear panel, though. The DFD-2 could actually be mounted inside the Century 22 in place of the analog dial, but I wouldn't want to destroy the "character" of the rig.

I have an SB-650 mated to my HW-100, but its a bit of a pain. Every time I use it I have to open it up and reseat or replace a chip or two. There is quite a bit of jitter on the 100 Hz digit, but, well, its a piece of history!

I'm no expert, but I think you want to leave the counter on the bench.
Check this site out for a display....

Because the rig mixes signals, and uses the sum in some cases, and the
difference in others...perhaps even the same rig, for different bands...You
need a bit more "smarts" than simply tapping your counter onto the leg of a
chip.

I still have 5 or 6 old Heathkit SB650 freq readouts for the old Sugar
Baker/Hot Water lines. Back then, it was like a friggin computer! Large
board loaded with chips....plug in no less....amazing that they still work!!
But same thing, it had to take three frequencies from the rig, and juggle
them to get a readout. Probably all done with a single PIC these days.

Subject: [TenTec] Century/22 tapping rx freq for digital counter

Hi all,

I've got a digital freq counter and wanted to use it as a digital freq
readout on my Century/22 but I can't seem to find a 'source' in the rig.
The circuit diagram shows the mixer as a UPC1037 (?) IC but mine has a
MC1496P.

Anyway I found the data sheet for the MC1496P double-balanced mixer and it
would seem to suggest that pins 6 and 12 were the output but when on 80m I
couldn't find a 3.5XX MHz signal on any pins. I can see the 10.000 MHz
band crystal output and I can see the 6.5 MHz PTO output (difference in
the 3.5XX range) but nothing 3.5XXX

Thanks for any suggestions
