A club that I attended their FD at for a number of years had a 40 meter 
bi-directional wire beam they used.  You might be able to do similar, but in 
your case being it to be mostly one-directional due to your western location.  
They used only two supports, and otherwise had each of the three wire elements 
laid out in the fashion of an inverted vee.  This gave gain along the axis, but 
because of the inverted vee nature of the wires also had some signal at right 
angle to the axis from the driven element.
