No you are not missing anything. The Orion must be polled to get its frequency.

Finally got around to hooking up my Orion 2 to my Steppir controller. Works
great with N4PY software. However, I can find no options in the Orion 2
menus to have the Orion output frequency/mode/etc to the CAT port whenever
frequency, mode or other status changes occur independent of any external
software program. I know the OMNI VI+ had this menu option.

The N4PY software polls the Orion 2 at 2 second intervals whenever the
Steppir box is checked in the N4PY setup so the Steppir gets frequency info
via a 'Y' cable. But without the N4PY software (or I suppose any other
logging or control software) but without it looks you are out of luck
attempting to control the Steppir. Am I missing something in the Orion
setup?
