I'm sure that the Elecraft KX3 is their own design. I would make three
observations:
1. My personal preference would be for an American kit radio over a Chinese assembled radio. For me, building it is half the fun. 2. I am interested in seeing how the Elecraft KX3 compares to the new Ten Tec 539 in performance and price. Both are supposed to be "under $1000". (Right now my portable HF rig is a Ten Tec Scout, but I would eventually like to upgrade to something better). 3. The most popular QRP/portable rig still seems to be the Yaesu FT-817ND. There is also the FT-897 with internal battery for those who need more power, though in a biggger package. It seems odd to me that no other manufacturer is presently attempting to compete with Yaesu in the "field portable" radio realm.

Sorry to bust your bubble guys, but the new Elecraft is going to cost a lot more and be a lot more. The biggest similarity is the looks. Who knows, this may be the new look of all rigs to come! I think that would hurt sales of the new Elecraft rig substantially. -------------------------------------- JHR ------------------------------------------- On 12/22/2011 8:19 AM, Ron Notarius W3WN wrote:And FWIW, the Elecraft KX-1 has a similar look and feel.
