For black covers as with the Drake R4-B receiver, I used to use Barbecue
Black from Rust-Oleum..... looking at their website, I don't see that, but
they do have a hammered series as well as a textured series, high
temperature, and epoxy paints. Krylon paints are also a good choice as I've
used them for accessories in the shack.

James, please do that.
I think we all face this problem from time to time.

When I was a teenager, I used to buy broken receivers and transmitters at
the Hamfest flea markets, fix them and then repaint their cabinets. I never
found a decent method to paint them. They always looked good but were
over-sensitive to scratching.

I have a couple of old pieces of equipment now that I would like to repaint.

Tnx.

I am not sure. Now that I have opened up the door, I may have to
close it by saying I don't know exactly what type of paint they used.
I thought it was the type that looks shiny, crinkled, and hard. I might
have to post the other guys for details. I have see photos of their
results, and the radios looked great, and the paint was supposedly
"tempered" that way. I will ask around if there is interest in my doing
that.
