I added four old fashioned serial ports to my computer - for $14 - the 
price of a single four-port PCIexpress add-in card.  No regrets.  No 
problems making USB-Serial ports work.  The computer sees four regular 
serial ports.   I have three radios and an auto tuner on the card.  No 
problems.  They make PCI cards, also.

Just MY take.
