Ditto.

My wife was in business conducting estate sales with the premier handler of such sales in our bailiwick. Occasionally, I gave appraisals of items within the scope of my particular expertise. I probated a "few" estates along the way. On this experience, an offer-before-you-inspect routine is an unreasonable request, poorly calculated to fetch the highest possible price for the item. I wonder if this constitutes a left handed attempt by the Administrator to get you to appraise or indicate its value for him.

A contract for sale arises whenever an offer to buy is accepted without exception by the seller. I would never make any offer I would not want accepted - certainly not for the purpose of inspecting an item. Considering the mystery surrounding the item, I would offer no more than its minimum value as a parts rig, and, perhaps, hope he would accept it! ;-)

 Just MY take, anyway.

Ditto on estate sales. If they want a sight unseen offer, mine would be PASS.

I agree, make an offer "subject to..........{you fill in the blank}" but do
be reasonable. I've done exactly this with boats and airplanes. If it
shouldn't look or perform as it should, then I say "sorry to have taken your
time". And I just did that on a commercial power amp. The fellow that
has it can take it or leave it based on the offer and terms. But, at the
same time when I see it, I may elect to revise my offer either up or down.
I've done that too.

Just remember, the true value of any product is "what the buyer is willing
to pay and what the seller is willing to accept".

I would appreciate thoughts on what a "reasonable" price is for a Paragon
II
with power supply. It is to be offered in an SK estate sale in the next
few
days, and to even get to see it, I would have to make a conditional
"reasonable" offer. The administrator says it is in "excellent to mint"
condition, but I have not seen it or even a picture of it yet, nor do I
know
what bells and whistles may be on it.

So, what you are really saying is that the "administrator" wants you to
make an offer sight unseen.

IMHO, the administrator ought to lighten up. I've been to a few estate
sales in my day, ham and otherwise, and was ALWAYS allowed to see the
merchandise first without making an offer.

Good luck...
