Indeed the Zepp antenna used in early ham days was the half wave end fed with a quarter wave of open wire line at right angles to the shack, for matching. To transform the high end impedance of the dipole to a more reasonable value for feeding from the rig tank circuit. On a Zeppelin, it would hang straight down. In modern times, it has been used on 2 meters as the J-Pole antenna, "upside down" to the orientation on the Z ship, with the feed point below the J-pole. But the antenna Physics work in either direction.

Extended Zepps and Double Zepps have 5/8 wavelength radiators, with the double Zepp being center fed with open wire line. These make nice gain antennas, especially the Double Zepp.
