[TenTec] INRAD 600 Hz CW filter

When performing the installation of this filter, there are several ways to allow it to be switched in/out of the circuit. Installed one about 6 years ago and it works very well with both the TT 500 and 250 Hz filters. I can switch it with either N-1/2 buttons since I removed those filters prior to the install. I see no reason why this would affect the alignment of the radio, especially when disengaged. Additional losses with the INRAD filter could be an issue, unless absolute MDS is what one's desires are. At one time I compared the Omni 6+ with this mod to both my Orion I and a loaner K3 and was satisfied with the results.

Now the INRAD audio mod is a another story...

Dale Putnam came through with the manual immediately.
Thanks to him, and others who read the mail.

Howdy and HNY to the Group

I have a chance to buy an Omni VI Option 3 which is full of INRAD filters. It also includes the INRAD 600 Hz ROOFING FILTER model 763. This is an outboard filter that is ahead of the 9 MHz filters (N1 & N2). I was wondering what thoughts you guys had about this roofing filter. It sounds good ?on paper? but a while ago I talked to Paul Clinton at Ten Tec and mentioned this filter to him. He acted like Dracula confronted with direct sunlight. He said that TenTec would not work on radios with this filter installed because the center frequency of the filter was not right and threw the whole alignment of the radio off. What say you guys?

Also, on a side note, I ended up with the same roofing filter kit but is model 764 2.4 KHz for SSB. I didn?t install it because it is for SSB and I?m primarily interested in CW. So if anyone is interested you can send me an email off list.

Could someone please tell me how I adjust the s-meter calibration numbers
in the hidden menu (RX Menu, then push PWR) such that an s9 signal
registers s9, etc?

I first set the meter pot (access hole in top panel behind AUDIO button) so
that meter registers 100W when transmitting 100W. Now I want to adjust
s-meter but I'm confused on adjusting those numbers.

I should have mentioned I'm well aware of the procedure shown at
http://www.tentecwiki.org/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=s-meter_565.pdf - I am
suggesting that this procedure is incomplete. When I set the meter to read
100W when transmitting 100W and then follow that procedure, I end up
reading s5 on a 50uV s9 signal.

There was a thread 3 years ago at
http://lists.contesting.com/_tentec/2012-01/msg00014.html that is speaking
of this matter but I don't understand the method alluded to so was asking
if anybody know.

I believe the s meter calibration is intended to be used for calibrating
the s meter. Thats not the same as pwr measurement.

I have a Tec desk microphone left and it's a
model

705 with the 4 pin connector. This is a
condenser mic, and can be used with radios
with or without the voltage on the mic line.

Shipping will be via USPS, either flat rate box
at $13, or I can try a smaller box and send it
at a lower rate. (I think)

Will sell it for $45 , plus shipping. Paypal OK, or check
or money order.
Thanks for looking.

That's what I thought.

When I fed the Elecraft XG-3 signal into the Aux RX input of the Orion,
S9 in = S9 on the meter..

I haven't touched the output setting of the meter.

It sounds good ?on paper? but a while ago I talked to Paul Clinton at

Those Inrad setups are switchable aren't they? If it can be simply
bypassed with a control switch, then there is no reason to claim it
cannot be worked on. Another way to bypass it may be to disconnect it
from the signal path, while leaving it in situ. If TT refuses to work on
it in that case, then it would seem they may be looking for any reason
(or excuse) they can think of to avoid working on older rigs. I hope
that is not the case.
