I haven't made that comparison (no access to Omni VI). The KX3 is a VERY
nice radio, but it's fundamentally a backpacking radio that CAN be a
great mobile rig or a great home rig IF you add some things.
First, of course, the power amp with optional built-in antenna tuner.
Second, the speaker is quite tiny, and to save battery drain, the audio
stage is super wimpy, so you'll need a powered speaker. Think of the KX3
as the control head for one of those radios with a detachable front
panel, except that the K3 is a MUCH better radio and it can put out 10W. :)
On the positive side, you've also got a great 6M radio with a built-in
preamp that's so good you don't need one outboard. And there's an
optional 2M transverter that fits inside the KX3. If you're cramped for
space, the amp can go under your desk at home, and in the trunk in the car.
