I bought my 238B from an estate and found it had been hot switched as well. Got
the, very special, switch from Ten-Tec and replaced it. Quite a job though.
It's been working great ever since with my double extended Zepp with ladder
line right to the tuner terminals. You can not just use any old switch. The
estate even paid me 50% of the new switch.

Subject: [TenTec] 229 and 238 tuners mod
I got a 238 in an estate buy and it had been hot switched and need a new
wafer switch
I got a replacement from ten tec but it was not cheap and I wonder if
they still have them
Replacing the burnt out disc caps was a lot cheaper than the wafer..
I guess the wafer switch used is ok but I am not sure it will take the
power that some think it will.
I have several of the original large Radio Switch rotary switches and I
would change the original for one of those
prior to or at least at the same time as the cap replacement with
doorknob caps.
