Though it is possible to blow the switch without doing anything wrong, IMO
"most" switches are blown out by doing something stupid: switching the
switch under full power.
I have watched people do this time and again.
They seem to think that since it is OK to rotate a roller inductor under
power, it is also OK to rotate the switch. This is like playing Russian
Roulette with 3 or 4 bullets in the gun.
If one always tunes the tuner at low power, and never turns the switch under
power, there is a very good chance that it will last as long as we do.

Subject: [TenTec] 229 and 238 tuners mod
I got a 238 in an estate buy and it had been hot switched and need a new
wafer switch I got a replacement from ten tec but it was not cheap and I
wonder if they still have them Replacing the burnt out disc caps was a lot
cheaper than the wafer..
I guess the wafer switch used is ok but I am not sure it will take the
power that some think it will.
I have several of the original large Radio Switch rotary switches and I
would change the original for one of those prior to or at least at the same
time as the cap replacement with doorknob caps.
