If someone had four identical vacuum caps then combining them with four
gears all the same tooth count would make a handy differential cap without
the need for idler gears and other unnecessary mechanical complexity...
(well okay one idler gear if one were  OCD about strict balance on higher
frequencies)... it only leaves the main tuning cap and the coil to figure
out... might not need very many taps  if the main tuning cap were also a
vacuum variable with their extremely wide range... I have seen vacuum
variables labeled for a hundred-to-one capacitance range which in theory
gives a 10 to 1 frequency range without taps..alas, such a tuner is likely
only for someone with very deep pockets (or a research grant) :-)
