You don't need a separate keyer box with my N4PY Oroon software. My software does have its own memories but it uses the Orion's built in keyer to send the memories.

The Orion firmware does not allow access to the Orion's built in voice keyer and memories. So no software can provide exactly what you are asking for.

But my software can at least provide this for CW.

John,

I have an Orion II and it is by far the best rig I've ever known. I have to
leave out Elecraft K3S, never had one but that would be on my list if I was
going to replace my Orion.

Your questions are about remote control of the Orion. This is beyond my scope,
all operating has been done direct but I hope the following will be of some
help to you.

I use N3FJP software which has function keys to send cw on the Orion with a
keyer such as Winkeyer. What you send is completely programable with the N3FJP
software including sending cw by keyboard.

I have a voice keyer by MFJ but hardly use it. Just as easy to use the voice
software memories on Orion.

The Winkeyer is another winner. It is available as a kit, easy to put together
and inexpensive.

Essentially the pc under control of N3FJP keys the Winkeyer which then keys
the Orion. I suppose latency due to computer interaction is minimized with the
buffer of the Winkeyer.

If you have never used N3FJP you are in for a pleasant surprise. It is
intuitive, easy to use and bullet proof. Through the years of my use and that
of our Citrus County Amateur Radio Club field day, I haven't lost a single QSO
due to shut downs, different operators, even emergency shut down due to June
thunderstorms.

Hope this helps.....73 John Bescher, N4DXI

Does anyone on the list know of computer control software for the Ten Tec
Orion that will let you control the CW memories and voice keyer memories
through the software? I have been looking around on the internet but
haven't found any yet. N4PY software has its own memories built in from
what I understand, but then I would need a separate keyer box between the
radio and computer.

I am getting my station set up for remote control over the internet and
trying to keep it as simple as possible. The Orion looks like a great rig
and would definitely think about getting one if the CW keyer and voice
keyer could be run by software.
