O I understand that, but you can not tell where 3100 volts is, you guest it somewhere between 2.4 and 3.2

As found in the manual, page 2-1 under METER, see the following.

2-2.7 METER   This switch is used to select what is being displayed on
the built-in illuminated meter.  When in the Ig position it selects grid
current to be read on the 0 - 400 mA full scale.  The Ep positions
selects the plate voltage {HV} as read on the 0 - 4.0 {4000 volts full
scale}.  When placed in the FWD position it reads forward power which is
read on the 2.5 KW full scale.    In all cases, standard mathematical
multipliers of X10, X100, or X1000 apply as appropriate.

This should explain how to read the Multi meter with its multiple
scales.   From experience, the metering system with the Centurion is
very accurate and easy to use and understand.
