Hello Gents--
I have a Ten Tec Omni VI that has an intermittent problem that comes and
goes for no apparent reason. The radio can be transmitting or receiving just
fine and then a loud howling noise comes on. When the noise comes on, all
functions are lost (signal reception, mode selection, band change, audio
gain, etc.). The radio can be turned off and then back on with no change.
Resetting the processor doesn't help. Shutting the radio down for a day or
so will bring it back to normal again. Normal operations may continue for
days or weeks before the howling noise appears unexpectedly once again.
I've found that pulling cable #56 on the Logic Board will stop the howling
noise. Plugging cable #56 back in restores the howling noise.
Has anyone had a similar problem with the Omni VI or can anyone give me any
guidance on how to go about repairing the radio? Thanks.
