I have replaced my Eagle with a 7300 and I am quite happy with it.
I also use an external preselector with it (probably not necessary in the
states).
More important, I NEVER run it with the RF gain fully open. I always have the
RF gain reduced.

It can do dozens of things a Corsair cannot do, many of which I don't need, but
some of which I am not willing to do without.

The short answer to your question Bob is, we don't all share the same wants and
needs, so it all depends on what you want your radio to do for you and whether
or not you understand how to use it properly.

Wait a minute...

The Corsair receives better than a IC-7300? My Corsair is a "keeper", but why
would I want a 7300, even to replace my Paragon. Maybe a 7300 is better than
a Paragon. Even so, I would expect a "modern" radio to perform better than a
vintage one.
