Hi all,
the guys on FW use a "Titanex Vertical" with a height of 20m (some 60 ft)
and an amplifier. Titanex is a German product. They are extreme
light-weight antennas consisting of an aluminum/titanium mixture and are
available with a height of 20m or 26m. The 26m version, which I use, only
weighs 7.5 kg (some 16 pound). They are very flexible and bent like a "U"
when you put them up and therefore need a lot of ropes/guy wires. The
antenna can be erected by only 2 or 3 people.
Matching for 160/80/40 is done at the bottom with a simple tuning box
which uses heavy duty relays for band switching.
Titanex offers a program of about 50 (full size) antennas - none of them
with traps.
The FW2EH vertical is the same antenna that was used by most of the German
DXpeditions on 160/80 recently like VK9CR, VK9XY, C56CW/DX and the guys on
J38 a few weeks ago.
